Spring
seems to be springing up here and there
in my neck of the woods of Colorado! The
tulips and iris’ are peaking through
and the robins are hoping all over the
grass. I hope you have enjoyed
at least a peak of Spring if not a full
blown reappearance of the warm air and
clear blue skies that sets all of our
souls to moving!
All
this fresh air has got me to thinking
that I need to be in touch more with
my cloth diapering friends. You
are witnessing the birth of my regular
newsletter. I am inspired by so
many things that I see and take part
in my life that I want to share them
with you knowing that something will
pique your interest and may even stir
your soul. I hope that you find
something in these and future pages that
just may make your life a little fuller,
a littler easier, a little simpler and
certainly a little more enjoyable. So
grab a cup of your favorite beverage
(I’ve got my cup of tea), perhaps
a yummy snack, kick up your feet, nurse ‘em
if you’ve got ‘em (nurslings
that is) and enjoy a bit about diapering
and a moment of my life that I want to
share with you.
My
kids and I just spent one day of our
spring break enjoying a local park with
our friends getting lots of sun and fresh
air. The limitless energy of children
still astounds me after almost six years
of being a mother. Hours of running,
jumping, adventuring and still wanting
more. Now that most of our children
are of the age where we can let them
run wild and free at the park, us mamas
reconnect on the blanket luxuriating
in the shade or sun. We cherish
our time sitting on the blanket catching
up on our lives – even though we
see each other in some cases once a week – while
enjoying park-snacks, sometimes knitting
and just being together. A community
of women is a wonderful blessed thing
and I am thankful for mine everyday.
Today
I was looking through some old articles
on Mothering.com and
came across a diapering article called Doing
the Diaper Dance: A Celebration of Cloth
Diapering by Nicole
Sallak Anderson (a web exclusive article)
that I just had to share with you. Here’s
an excerpt (to read the full article
go to Diaper
Dance Article.
When
I chose to use cloth diapers on my sons,
I was introduced to an amazing cottage
industry run by ambitious women who also
happen to be very talented at the sewing
machine. Their creativity and innovation
has changed cloth diapering from a plain
pre-folded diaper and pull up plastic
pants to something much more exciting
and fashionable. Today's handmade designer
cloth diapers can be as beautiful as
the sweaters you wear. They are thrilling
to shop for and even more thrilling to
receive in the mail. Opening up the delivered
package can turn into a dance of joy
as you get your first glimpse of the
diaper. It is a "Diaper Dance" in celebration
of the work of art you have just purchased.
When
looking for diapers that will steal the
spotlight in your children's wardrobe,
there are many choices. Some of the best-looking
items are usually either fitted diapers,
covers or All-In-Ones. Whatever the choice,
these handmade diapers are sure to have
you doing the "Diaper Dance" every time
you put one on your child's precious
little bottom.
The
article, and this excerpt specifically,
reminded me of the first fitted diaper
I received in the mail. It was
from Under the Nile and was made of organic
Egyptian cotton. Truly, it was
the softest, fluffiest, most luxurious
bit of cotton I ever had chance to hold. I
quickly showed my husband who, surprisingly,
turned speechless. He held the
diaper to his face and his eyes closed
in pure joy. When he could speak,
his first words were “could I
have a pillow made from this?” My
husband and I did a ‘slow dance
of joy’ together upon our introduction
to UTN fitted diapers. I never
thought that a diaper could be seen as
a luxury item, danced about and, coveted
to induce relaxing, rejuvenating sleep. Goes
to show you that small joys come from
the strangest places, even something
that will be pooped in!
Now
I use those very same diapers on my daughter
and sell them on my website. They
really are a diapering joy. You
definitely need to get one or a stack
of these diapers into your diaper stash. Go
to Under the Nile Diapers to
order your stack.
Not
only are they the softest diaper (and
stay that way after repeated washings)
but they are also highly absorbent as
well. Now here’s the best
part, they contain poop better than any
prefold I’ve ever seen. If
that’s not reason enough to convince
you to get one of these fabulous “works
of diapering art” I don’t
know what will.
